Mayor Harp Celebrates AmeriCorps and Senior Corps Volunteers

On Tuesday, April 7th, Mayor Harp joins AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers at Teach for America’s offices to thank them for their service and have a conversation about the issues that face New Haven—and how national service can help.

Organized by the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut, this event highlights the work of the over 700 national service members working in the region including the over 400 older adults engaged in volunteer work through programs hosted at the Agency on Aging.

As President and CEO Ted Surh states, "Volunteering is one of the best ways for older adults to stay healthy, allowing them to share their skills and experience while helping address some of our communities' greatest needs. We are proud to be partners with the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Connecticut Commission on Community Service in offering programs such as Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions, RSVP, AARP Experience Corps, and AmeriCorps VISTA through our Agency."
