If you were fortunate enough to attend the Annual Meeting Breakfast, you would understand the feeling of wonderment. Attendees had the opportunity to see and hear about the impact of our programs on those who need support and are courageous enough to seek or accept it. One attendee shared this message with me: “It was enjoyable and very informative. Kudos for the two videos; they encapsulate the enormous value of the AOA in a way that written words alone cannot.”
In addition to highlighting the impact of our dedicated volunteers across various programs, we also had the chance to witness the incredible work of the Money Follows the Person program. It was truly moving to see how much the ability to live independently means to someone. We often don't realize the impact of our work or volunteering until we find ourselves in a similar situation.

I would like to take this opportunity to reflect upon last year's 50th anniversary luncheon and the insightful videos presented by several of our Medical Chaperones. This program remains critically significant for a large number of elderly individuals as they endeavor to navigate the complexities of the computerized, fast-paced, and continuously evolving medical landscape. These videos are available on our website; however, I would like to highlight a few notable stories that have emerged over recent months.
In certain instances, while accompanying a client to medical appointments, valuable conversations can transpire regarding other challenges they may be facing. Greta has exemplified this approach through her openness and compassionate demeanor, often being approached for assistance with intricate paperwork that can be daunting for our older clients, particularly when such documents must be completed on a computer. We are immensely grateful for Greta and her proficiency in this area.
In the absence of a Medical Chaperone who speaks Spanish, we frequently seek individuals willing to assist. Angela has cultivated an exceptional rapport with a client, enabling effective communication with minimal difficulty, thereby facilitating transportation to and from medical appointments through providers who may also lack Spanish-speaking capabilities.
We hope that as you read these stories and watch the videos, you feel inspired to help us continue to do what we do best, supporting individuals in our community so they can live independently among us.
