Chaperones Going Above & Beyond
Volunteering is an integral part of the Agency on Aging’s mission. The Medical Chaperone Support program’s mission is to help people who need assistance in getting to and from their medical appointments and treatments. The chaperone accompanies the client from their place of residence to the appointment and back to their home. The chaperone provides companionship, and support and ensures a safe transportation experience.
We would like to highlight two of our medical chaperones who have gone above and beyond their responsibilities.
One of these volunteers is Snow Turner. Ms. Turner noticed her client was getting more and more restless since the transportation company was taking a long time to pick them up for their return ride back to the facility. After 3 hours of trying to get the transportation company to come pick them back up, Ms. Turner decided to call her son. He was more than happy to assist by giving a ride to both the client and his mom. This act truly showed love, compassion, and care.
Another chaperone who excelled in serving a client is Greta Johnson. After a long medical appointment, Ms. Johnson offered to assist her client with groceries, as the client had missed her opportunity to get a ride to go grocery shopping. Realizing the client’s significant need for food, Ms. Johnson asked for her grocery list and proceeded to the store to shop for her client. The client was very grateful for her kindness, compassion, and care. Another act of love indeed.
