Why Do People Volunteer?

Why do people volunteer?

This question can elicit a wide range of answers, as everyone has their reasons for getting involved. However, a common theme is the desire for connection.

You might be surprised to learn that some of our volunteers also experience loneliness and isolation like those they help. Yet they choose to combat these feelings by dedicating their time to others and sharing their experiences and energy with volunteer programs like ours.

The RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) program is unique in that most RSVP volunteers provide their support autonomously, so it is important for the Agency to look for innovative ways to connect RSVP volunteers with one another.

To foster this interaction, the Agency sponsors an RSVP Volunteer Social each month where program volunteers can meet each other and engage in conversation, laughter, and support. At these meet-up sessions a variety of experiences and topics are discussed, and sometimes guest speakers are invited in to provide information on various issues.

We enjoy watching new and existing relationships blossom among our volunteers and we look forward to continuing these and new social opportunities.
