The Shelton Senior and Health Wellness Fair on September 30th was hosted by Connecticut Legislators, Senator Kevin Kelly and Representatives Ben McGorty and Jason Perillo.
There is a new program to assist those who are at risk for falls, have fallen or who have had to phone 911 for a list-assist. This program's goal is to help the individual stay safely in their own homes by providing additional, no-cost help from doctors, nurses and paramedics.
The CARE (Caregiver Advise, Record and Enable) Act was developed by the AARP to help to ensure caregivers receive the information and training they need to care for their loved ones returning home from the hospital.
Nominations are being solicited for this award that was designed to acknowledge the selfless sacrifices that caregivers make every day to provide the best care possible.
AARP developed this guide to help caregivers find needed assistance, connect with others, and take care of themselves.
On July 14 we were proud to join almost 100 supporters from around the state to celebrate the 50th anniversary of AmeriCorps Seniors VISTA in Connecticut.
Connecticut Open Volunteers are sponsored by AARP Connecticut this year, so AoASCC had an opportunity to staff a table at the Tennis Open volunteer orientation.

This fall, older adults will go “back to school” in area elementary schools once again to help young children learn to read as volunteers with AARP Experience Corps – Greater New Haven.
